It is logical to wash soiled clothes during weekends. Laundry is a labor-intensive task here; it takes almost the whole day just to hand-wash, but only about an hour or two to dry them, even less on 32-plus-degree days. Even with the advent of washing machines, people would still have to hand-wash their unmentionables to avoid early wear and tear. Dryers are a luxury in Manila, given the cost of the machine and its big electricity consumption (to a country with one of the highest electricity rates in Asia, that is a huge deal), but sunlight isn't.
